Where can I find the pension files? Especially about 1830 for the War of 1812.. or even later.

    Thanks, Ellie Swanger

      Hello Ellie,
Pension files for the War of 1812 can be found at the National Archives in Washington. Fold3 has about half of them. They are working on digitizing all of them. There are indexes to the Pension files on Ancestry and Fold3; as well as some other places online. Keep in mind that the Government didn’t pass the act for War of 1812 pensions until 1871. So….. unless the veteran or his widow lived until at least 1871; you typically won’t find a pension for them.
