Free 30 Minute Consultations

Just did a 30 minute (actually; more like 60 minute) consultation for a member of my Digginbones Genealogy Facebook group. Used a Google Hangout for it; so I was able to talk face to face; as well as share things on my screen. I think I gave her some good ideas on how to find the parents of this particular ancestor; and found a Rev. War Pension file for a man who “may” be the father. How cool is that!?

I will continue to offer free 30 minute consultations (Via a Google Hangout) to anyone who might need some suggestions and ideas on their own brick wall; or maybe has some more general genealogy questions.

Anyone who can use some suggestions and/or ideas on how to break through your own brick wall; may feel free to message me to set up a free consultation.

Pension Files

Well…..  My internet has been working all day today; since about 9 this morning.  Have no idea why.  However; I did shut down my computer for a while this morning; and restarted it about an hour later.  Internet has worked ever since.  So…. I will be rescheduling the Google Hangout for the discussion of “The Value of Pension Files for Genealogy” within the next couple of days.  I will likely schedule it for early next week; and will (of course) post here in advance of it.

In the meantime; for those of you who have obtained a pension file for one or more of your ancestors; what was the best or most unexpected thing you found in a pension?

I’ll start with one of my own.  I got a Civil War pension file for a GG Grandfather; who was the father of my Great-Grandmother.  He was married (to someone other than my GG Grandmother); but had 5 children with her.  Although I was told that he was the father of my G-Grandmother; I never expected any written confirmation.  I was surprised when I received his pension file to see a deposition by someone who had stated that he visited my great grandmother’s house frequently; and that he had fathered several children with her.  A very nice surprise in this pension file.

Would love to hear about something you found in a pension file.

Hangout for This Evening Cancelled

I am sorry for the short notice.  However; I am having internet connection problems; and have to cancel the Google Hangout this evening.  I hate Comcast!  I will likely be switching to DSL service.  I will re-schedule the Hangout for “The Value of Pension Files for Genealogical Purposes” in the coming days.  I am very sorry.  It is beyond my control.  I have called Comcast Tech support; and; as usual; they were unable to help and have schedule a tech to come to my home Thursday.

The Value of Pension Files (Google Hangout)

It’s been a while since my last Google Hangout.  I have had a lot going on lately; and other things had taken priority.  But….. I am ready to get back to it!

I will be hosting a Google Hangout session Tuesday, 8 Sept. 2016.  The hangout will begin at 8 pm Eastern time.  There is no cost for this.

During the session; I will discuss the value of pension files for genealogy research.  Pension files contain a wealth of genealogical data.  I will show some examples of pension files; and will point out some of the valuable information contained in them.  I will also try to answer some questions (as best I can); and will open the session up to discussion later.

All are invited to attend this free Google Hangout.  To attend a Google Hangout, you must have a Google/Gmail account.  I will be sharing video and audio; and at times will be sharing some things on my computer screen.

Please let me know if you wish to be attend this online Google Hangout.  I will post the link to the hangout on my Digginbones Genealogy Facebook group about 30 minutes prior to the hangout Tuesday evening.  If you are not a member of my Digginbones Genealogy Facebook group; you can join the group by simply clicking the link.

Please comment below if you plan on attending so that I can get some rough idea of how many viewers/participants will be attending this Hangout Session.

Please share this blog with your genealogy friends so that they can attend also.  I am looking forward to the discussion!
